I have a fantasy about piecing quilts. In my fantasy, I can hurry the technical process of piecing a design I have just created. I can somehow magically speed through the boring parts — the cutting, the pinning, the stitching, the ironing. The part where you get out the seam ripper and take it apart because it’s not lying flat. It means having the thrill of creation without the tedious process of sewing it together … like having the best part of a ride at Disneyland or Magic Mountain — without the waiting in line or other boring parts.

Is this a total fantasy, or is there something to it? When I compare myself to some of the quilters I know, it seems to take me longer to sew my quilts together. Am I slow? A bit too fussy? Or am I comparing myself to others when I know better? Because we are all different, with different strengths and styles and approaches.
For now, I think I will just chill out about this. And go quilt, of course.
